Domain name is unique in terms of ownership. You cannot register a name that has been registered by other person, but you can register the same name with other extension provided it is still available for registration. You even can sell a nique or much sought after domain name such as the word that we use everyday or a domain that easy to remember. To create a professional looking website, it is suggested that you use your own domain.
Good domain is easy to remember and reflect what the website about. What are the criteria of a good domain? Easy to remember, redundancy (repetitive alphabet and words ) and not too long – unless you want to create longest domain name. The example of the words that sound repetitive are : pingpong, kingkong, dingdong or you can combine your chosen domain with country extension – wedding2.be (wedding to be), you tube (youtube).
Finally, make sure that you register your domain at a reputable registrar. It is to avoid the hassle of changing domain registrar to new registrar when the first one is out of business. It do happens once a while, but I am sure that you want everything run smooth.
